  Long Distance Adoption

Long-distance financial support is a form of solidarity that consists in a stable and continual economic contribution to an identified beneficiary who lives a Third World Country. Economic assistance is given to pay for food, medicine, school supplies, etc. The philosophy behind this program is to avoid tearing the beneficiary, generally a minor, from his or her home, to respect his or her culture, thus also respecting his or per personal human dignity.

Long-distance support can be pledged from single individuals, families, groups of friends and even scholastic groups, businesses, and local governments who wish to provide a brighter future for many children in the Third World.

Our initiative, in particular, is aimed at minors from particularly economically disadvantaged families.

Our countries of operation are Eritrea, Ethiopia, India, Nepal and Pakistan.

In Eritrea, the wounds left by the recent, tragic conflict with Ethiopia are still unhealed. The difficulties faced by this war-torn society are compounded by continuous and severe draught. The result poverty and malnutrition of unimaginable proportions. At least 425,000 children under the age of 14 (of a total population of less than 4 million inhabitants) live in conditions of extreme poverty.

Poverty and malnutrition can be found much closer to home as well. They are realities for many of the children of immigrants and political asylum seekers residing in Italy. For these individuals Italy yet provided the opportunity to realize the many social and economic aspirations that migrant brings from his or her country of origin.

The long-distance support project is thus aimed at vulnerable Eritrean, Ethiopian, Indian, Nepali and Pakistani minors as well as needy children residing in Italy.

After completing and sending the participation form, the donor receives information regarding the destination of his or her contribution including initial documentation regarding the child: a biographical information sheet, a photograph, and, whenever possible, a brief description of the personal history of the child and of the local realities. The donor also receives the necessary payment instructions based on his or her previously-chosen method of payment. Subsequently, the donor receives at least one or two updates per year.

Finally, the donor will receive a complementary subscription to  “Altri” (Italian for Others), our association’s magazine.

All personal information shall be treated in accordance with “Law 196/03 for the Protection of the personal information of individuals and other entities.”
